Secret Life of Pine Gap gets Airing

MATERIAL leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden has been analysed to reveal Pine Gap plays a critical role in monitoring intercepted satellite communications as part of a new “collect-it-all” strategy implemented by the “Five Eyes” alliance.
The alliance comprises security agencies from the US, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand, and is bound by a multilateral agreement for joint co-operation in signals intelligence.
A report prepared by leading academics and espionage experts for the Nautilus Institute draws heavily on leaks to expose the strategy of Five Eyes, which Snowden described as a “supranational intelligence organisation that doesn’t answer to the known laws of its own countries”.
The report’s authors are Australian National University emeritus professor Des Ball, British investigative journalist Duncan Campbell, Canadian intelligence researcher Bill Robinson and Melbourne University professor Richard Tanter.
