AUSTRALIA’S first nuclear power plant should be built in Darwin or Katherine, a council alderman said yesterday.
Former Alice Springs deputy mayor Murray Stewart said a nuclear plant would make either community wildly rich.
……”They would become the Saudi Arabia of Australia,” he said.
“Part of the deal for hosting the power plant could be free electricity for Territorians.
“That would create an energy ‘tax haven’ for businesses.
“All this would be the gift of gold for northern Australia.”……….He said the nuclear complex would even become a tourist attraction…..He was responding to a call from Nationals’ Barnaby Joyce for Australia to develop nuclear power.
