Ziggy Switkowski spins again
Australia Out Of Step On Nuclear Power – ANSTO Chief –NASDAQ By Ray Brindal, Dow Jones Newswires 16 Nov 09 CANBERRA –(Dow Jones)- Australia is out of step with other advanced economies in not having an active nuclear power program but this could change quickly if the government had the will to do so, Ziggy Switkowski, chairman of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization, said Monday………………
“We can move quickly once there is the community and political will to do so and I think that point will be reached as we all begin to understand the gravity of the challenges to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to replace our fossil fuel infrastructure,” he said in an interview on ABC radio.
Switkowski said the Australian Government isn’t interested in introducing nuclear power but overseas experience will shape Australian thinking and it’s possible that under the next government, Australian leaders will be prepared to think of it as not only an option but as the preferred option.
The government’s Nuclear Science and Technology Organization operates a range of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities and equipment for research and commercial purposes.
