Australia’s Pine Gap part of nuclear Star Wars?

Green s fear Pine Gap part of Star Wars. ABC News By Adrienne Francis Dec 18, 2009

The Australian Greens are concerned there may be moves to link Central Australia’s spy base at Pine Gap to the United States proposed ballistic missile defence shield known as “Star Wars”.

The Australian Defence Department has announced a major upgrade of satellite antennas at Pine Gap near Alice Springs.

Defence says the upgrade will take four years and will replace aging equipment.

Greens Senator Scott Ludlum is calling for the Defence Minister to explain the upgrade.

“We are trying to demobilise nuclear weapons at the same time as we are upgrading a base in Central Australia that is probably the most important base in the Southern Hemisphere for the United States’ ability to fight nuclear wars.”http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/12/18/2775866.htm?section=australia
