Women walking to Canberra to oppose NT nuclear waste dump

Cassie joins peace walk, Ipswich Queensland Times. 9th March 2010 On Saturday Ms McMahon will join a 1400km walk from Brisbane to Canberra to encourage a peaceful and sustainable future as part of the Women’s International Peace Walk.
The walk will be held in solidarity with similar events in the United States.
The Ipswich resident will average 20km a day on the 80-day endurance test, arriving in the nation’s capital on May 25…..

When they arrive in Canberra Ms McMahon said the walkers would take their cause to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in the form of a petition which will include signatures they have collected as they stop at each community along the way.
“The petition will focus on demanding that the federal government provide a sustainable, peaceful future and that by digging up uranium and accepting nuclear waste, we are jeopardising that peaceful future,” she said…. For more information visit the website http://www.footprintsforpeace.net.
