Gillard dumps Muckaty in it after refusing to reconsider | Northern Territory News July 8th, 2010 PRIME Minister Julia Gillard has told Territorians she won’t be revisiting the decision to dump Australia’s radioactive waste in the NT Outback.In Darwin yesterday, Ms Gillard said she wanted a process led by science to choose the best site for the facility.”Every step of the way we’re going to be guided by scientific assessments,” she told ABC radio.

Chief Minister Paul Henderson and Member for Solomon Damian Hale met with Ms Gillard yesterday.
Both Territory representatives raised their opposition to the dump and called for a selection based on science.
“It was just an opportunity to talk to her about our position – she’s known mine from the start,” Mr Hale said. “She’s seen me stand up in caucus and discuss this issue.
“She knows the position of people in the Territory.”………..
Some traditional owners from the Muckaty area have started proceedings in the Federal Court to try and stop the dump going ahead.
Ms Gillard described these as some issues that were being worked through.
