Greens call on major parties to declare their hand on nuclear energy , Scott Ludlam, 22nd July 2010, The Australian Greens are calling on Labor and the Coalition to be up-front with Australians about their position on nuclear power after a renewed push by the uranium lobby.

Paladin Energy Chief John Borshoff told yesterday’s uranium conference in Perth the nation will have its first nuclear power plant within 15 years.

“This is no more than the usual self-interested hallucination from a junior miner whose uranium project at Angela Pamela has been fiercely resisted by the Alice Springs community,” said Greens nuclear spokesperson Senator Scott Ludlam.

“But Mr Borshoff does raise the legitimate issue of where the major parties stand on nuclear energy in Australia.

“The Labor Party says they are against it but have let ANSTO head Dr Zigmunt Switkowski travel all over the country as atomic energy salesman-in-chief.

“The Liberals have an active core of nuclear supporters on the backbench but no more than awkward silence from Tony Abbott.
