Wait too long for BHP environment response: Greens ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), 3 Dec 10, BHP Billiton has given supplementary Environmental Impact Statements  to SA Government The Greens say the public should not have to wait eight weeks to read BHP Billiton’s response to environmental concerns about its planned expansion of mining at Olympic Dam in outback South Australia.

The 15,000-page supplementary environmental impact statement has now been given to the SA Government.

Greens MP Mark Parnell says waiting another eight weeks for more detail is not good enough.

“There’s 4,189 people waiting to see how BHP Billiton have explained away the serious concerns that exist around the Olympic Dam expansion,” he said.

“If the document is good enough to give to the Government, it’s also good enough to show the people who went to the trouble of making a submission.

“What we don’t know is what deals the Government will be striking with BHP over the next two months. People in good faith have made submissions, the company has now responded. Let’s see what their answers are.”
