Mining industry worried about NT govt’s opposition to Alice Springs uranium mine
A spokeswoman for Resources Minister Kon Vatskalis says there are significant differences between the iron ore and uranium mine proposals in question.

Adelaide-based Western Desert Resources wants to mine iron ore in a remote area near the Gulf of Carpentaria earmarked for the proposed Limmen National Park……..
The Territory Opposition’s resources spokeswoman Kezia Purick says mining companies want certainty.”So if they have been given the right to explore, they’ve got a granted exploration licence there is an expectation that they would be able to move to a mining phase, assuming that they go through all the consultation processes, all the approval processes, whether it be with traditional owners, land councils or stakeholders in the areas where they are exploring.”

She says the Western Desert Resources project has local support, and would not see uranium mined near a town.
