Dubbo can lead the way for NSW rural solar power

Dubbo to become renewable energy hub ABC Western Plains NSW – Australian Broadcasting Corporation,  December 15, 2010 A solar power station, believed to be the first of its kind in Australia, is being planned for Dubbo in western New South Wales.

Soleir has asked the Dubbo City Council if it can lease 55 acres near the water treatment plant to develop the $5 million project next year.

A company director, Rowan Gillespie, says the two megawatt solar station would generate enough renewable energy to power 2000 homes.

He says it would be based on photovoltaic technology, using hundreds of thousands of the same panels used on homes.

Mr Gillespie says the company is planning to develop about 20 of the power stations over the next few years.

He says the power would go back into the grid to help electricity retailers meet their renewable energy targets…
