Eyre Peninsula wants involvement in wind farm planning

“There is currently no published scientific evidence to positively link wind turbines with adverse health effects”….There is no evidence of wind farms having a negative effect on property values

EPLGA wants more involvement in planning Rural Report for West Coast: ABC Rural,   December 16, 2010, Port Lincoln The Eyre Peninsula Local Government Association is not against any proposed wind farms in the region and has said locals aren’t either. The association wants to pursue more renewable energy options, but they want to be more involved in the planning process.

Executive officer, Diana Laube, says problems or concerns need to be ironed out before the wind turbines are put in.

She says she has recently written to a Senate Inquiry into wind farms to ask if communities and councils can be involved.

Clean Energy Council policy director Russell Marsh sent through the following statement on the issue.

“Large scale renewable energy projects such as wind farms are crucial to help reduce Australia’s carbon emissions over the next decade. In 2009 our existing wind farms saved Australia more than 4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide. They are a key part of a cleaner energy future and are currently supported by approximately 80 per cent of country Australians.

Wind farms are a relatively new feature in our landscape and will continue to be debated over the next few years. However, it is important that this debate remains grounded in science and evidence. There are a number of misconceptions about wind power that continue to be circulated about the effects on property values and health.

The National Health and Medical Research Council is the peak body for health research in Australia. It reviewed the issue of health and wind turbines mid-year and released the following public statement: “There is currently no published scientific evidence to positively link wind turbines with adverse health effects”. The Clean Energy Council welcomes more objective scientific research in this field.

There is no evidence of wind farms having a negative effect on property values…..
