Arkaroola to be a National Park, perhaps not with uranium mining?
Clearly, there is overwhelming public opposition to mining in Arkaroola.
Editorial: Sentiment holds sway for Arkaroola | Adelaide Now, 18 Feb 2011, THE expected decision to declare the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary a national park is a welcome move.……..Clearly, there is overwhelming public opposition to mining in Arkaroola. This is evident from the majority of the 450 submissions received by the Government’s inquiry into the issue which included opposition from not only the usual environmental lobbyists but also bodies such as the SA Tourism Industry Council and the SA Museum.
It has been reinforced by opinion polls and waves of comment from the public whenever the issue is raised in the media.
