Parliament erupted yesterday when Liberal education spokesman Michael Ferguson claimed a wave of extreme “green” propaganda was likely to to wash through Tasmanian schools.

Mr Ferguson said there was evidence of the “greens brainwashing” at Taroona High……

Mr McKim said “But what [Mr Ferguson] has now revealed is that if there was a Liberal education minister, they would be sending out directives to schools saying we are banning you from making decisions about who you invite into your school and what they can say.

“To completely centralise those decisions onto the Minister’s desk would be the most draconian step backwards for the empowerment of school communities that this State has seen for over a decade.”……

Mr Hamlett said the event had been organised by a group of Grade 8 students as part of his school’s involvement in Microsoft’s international Innovative Schools program.

He said the event had been organised long before Mr McKim became Education Minister.

He confirmed one of the speakers at the lunch would be Ula Majewski, a former spokeswoman for Still Wild Still Threatened, who left the organisation last year.

Ms Majewski said last night she had been phoned by Mr Hamlett a fortnight ago and asked to attend in her own right, because he knew she had spent nine months working in Indonesia’s forests trying to prevent illegal logging, and was now completing a university thesis on the subject.Libs lash ‘green’ schools push Tasmania News – The Mercury – The Voice of Tasmania
