Australia’s billionaires revolting again? Gina Rinehart and Ivan Glasenberg?
Last year, Australians nearly wept, as they saw poor Gina Rinehart, and other underprivileged mining billionaires out in the streets, rallying to save ASustralia from Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s super profits mining tax. Their pain was relieved, as with the help of the media and a few Labor heavies, this cruel threat to their $billions was removed. Indeed, Kevin Rudd was removed, to the mining lobby’s great relief.
But now, poor Gina is threatened with a Carbon Tax. She will have torarlly the media and public back out into the streets again.
But this year, Gina, and Clive Palmer, and BHP and Rio Tinto will have help.
For now, out of the shadows emerges Ivan Glasenberg. You didn’t know that he is Australian, did you? This CEO of Glencore , despite being South African, and living in Switzerland, did adopt Australian nationality.
As international company Glencore gets set to take over Xstrata Australia, it’s had to become a public company. Perhaps a good thing for all that dodgy Glencore is now (more or less) a little more visible
Ivan Glasenberg will very likely be happy to spend just a little of his $8.8 billion, to join Gina and her $10.3 billion, to fight the Australian government in its efforts to do something about Climate Change. – Christina Macpherson
