Health dangers of electromagnetic radiation

WHO Rings The Alarm Bell On Mobile Phone? RTT News 2 June “………Mobile phones emit electromagnetic radiation in the microwave range.Over the last few years, there has been a growing concern over the possible health hazards of mobile phone radiation. The first time that cell phones were associated with cancer risk was in 1997, following a study conducted by Michael Repacholi and his colleagues from the Royal Adelaide Hospital in South Australia that showed an increase in the occurrence of lymphoma in mice exposed to cell phone radiation over a long term.
Now, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, or IARC, an arm of the World Health Organization, has classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer, associated with wireless phone use.
The conclusion was arrived at by the IARC Monograph Working Group on Tuesday after evaluating the available literature on occupational exposures to radar and to microwaves; environmental exposures associated with transmission of signals for radio, television and wireless telecommunication; and personal exposures associated with the use of wireless telephones.
However, the evidence was overall evaluated as being limited among users of wireless telephones for glioma and acoustic neuroma (slow-growing tumor of the nerve that connects the ear to the brain), and inadequate to draw conclusions for other types of cancers.
