Proponents of Muckaty nuclear waste dump show racism and discrimination against outback people

the continuing suggestion that remote Australia is a great place for nuclear waste, sums up what Australians who believe it is a good idea, think of rural Australians, both white and black.

Nuclear waste dump in ‘the middle of nowhere’ – Tennant Creek, Fiona Lake, 22 July 11, If the vitriolic anti-bush comments in relation to the live export ban didn’t convince rural Australians that there is a sizeable slab of urban Australia who despise them (though urban residents rely on rural residents for food & export income), then the recent online forum comments regarding the planned nuclear waste dump near Tennant Creek, surely will.  Discussions on the merits of the Muckaty station nuclear waste dump has also given voice to the racists who imply aboriginal people aren’t smart enough to figure out for themselves that nuclear waste isn’t something they want in their backyard, at any price. Australia’s polluting industries gear up for campaign against carbon pricing

Industry launches anti-carbon tax campaign, ABC News, chief political correspondent Sabra Lane, 21 July 11 A lobby group is opening up a new front against the Federal Government’s carbon tax plans by kicking off an advertising campaign.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Coal Association, the Minerals Council and the Housing Industry Association have formed a group they call the Australian Trade and Industry Alliance.

It says the Government’s deal with the Greens and the independents is flawed and will harm businesses.

In an echo of the mining industry’s tactics against the resources tax last year, the group says it will run a range of media ads against the carbon price.

Last year the Minerals Council spent $17 million in its campaign against the super profits tax and it was successful in watering it down. It was also credited with helping to oust Kevin Rudd from the Lodge.

“The key message is the carbon tax means pain but no environmental gain,” Alliance spokesman Peter Anderson said….http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-07-21/industry-group-steps-up-carbon-ads/2803794

Former pro nuclear PM Nakasone now wants Japan to switch to solar eneergy

Price on carbon gives Australia the chance to compete in 21st Century world

WA and the nation will be coming to an election. If we actually manage to get past July 1 2012 and have a price on carbon, any future election campaigns will have to deal with the reality that the carbon price (like the GST) didn?t end the world, and indeed, things seem to be getting better.

In those circumstances, all sides of politics will be talking what more they can do to be sustainable, not how to reverse it.

As the boy scouts say: ‘be prepared’, Utility products, By Ray Wills, 22 July 11, “…...tackling the issue of pricing carbon early should not create disadvantage, but rather position the economy to be in the best state to respond to the challenge of reducing global greenhouse gas emissions.

Despite what the shock jocks say, Australia must be both prepared and competitive in a world that is actually acting to do just that. Continue reading

Clean Energy Finance Corporation a business plus for Australia

…Far from being a slush fund for the ALP, the proposed CEFC would be a commercially-minded independent authority enabling Australian businesses to commercialise and deploy Aussie renewable energy innovations…..The CEFC is a critical institution for driving Australia’s long-term reductions in emissions at least cost with maximum economic benefit. …

Why we need the Clean Energy Finance Corporation CEFC, Climate Spectator, Simon O’Connor. 22 July 11“……The Export Finance and Insurance Corporation (EFIC) has enabled Australian businesses to overcome financial barriers to doing business by bridging market gaps the commercial banks dared not bridge.
