Regional Australia getting ready for solar energy

“Regional Australia is where it’s all going to happen [first].”

Clean energy: it’s not rocket science http://www.centralwesterndaily.com.au/news/local/news/general/clean-energy-its-not-rocket-science/2537793.aspx  BY TRACEY PRISK, 30 Apr, 2012  SOLAR energy was the hot topic at the 100 per cent Clean Energy Roadshow in Orange last week. More than 40 Orange residents keen to know more about renewable energy were given the opportunity to ask a panel of experts and clean energy users about the benefits and pitfalls of various energy sources. Nature Conservation Council of NSW sustainability program officer Fieke Geerts said the night was a big success. “People were very interested in hearing about solar opportunities for Australia,” she said. “Some people said they didn’t know how to transition to 100 per cent renewable energy but we’re [Australia] ready to do it, we just need to have the public’s support and the political will to do it. “Regional Australia is where it’s all going to happen [first].” Ms Geerts said some participants expressed concerns about problems associated with wind farms, so appreciated the opportunity to speak to wind farm landholder Kim Masters. “We touched on a lot of different things like electricity prices and economic opportunities,” Ms Geerts. “It’s not rocket science.” Speakers at the forum included Grant Christopherson of the Office of Environment and Heritage, Geoff Cameron of Beyond Zero Emissions, Phil Robertson of Hybrid Power Systems and Rachel Young of the Central West Renewable Energy Co-operative.
