Video: the plight of Koodankulam’s anti nuclear protestors, in supposedly ‘democratic’ India

David Bradbury, 26 March 12, Please do watch this video….from Kudankulum. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xloBd59xC7I

Please take a look at the youtube clip   and at these brave, poor but passionately dedicated fisher folk struggling  to keep their kid’s environment nuke free people in southern India – facing off across the Indian ocean expanse to our wonderful land. We need to give them all our moral support and prayers we can possibly give in their uphill battle against the central Indian Govt who is telling PM Gillard to trust them with their uranium. They are a ‘robust democratic’ country….so says Julia.

Australians’ ‘moral duty’ to dump nuclear wastes on Aboriginal land – Ferguson

If you read, or listen to, this ABC  TV story, it gives an insight into the question of storing radioactive wastes.   Medical  experts explain the management of the short-lived medical radioactive wastes.   A radiology expert explains that the major waste problem is the nuclear wastes generated by the Lucas Heights nuclear reactor.
The point of view of the Aboriginal landowners is shown.

Martin Ferguson continues to claim that the purpose of the Muckaty dump is to store ‘medical wastes”  – ”   —   “It is a moral issue. If you want access to nuclear medicine then take on the responsibility of storing your waste.”

So Ferguson is more or less telling Australians that -” no Muckaty waste dump, no nuclear medicine for you”.  Apparently it is also our ‘moral duty’ to impose these wastes on Aboriginal people, whether they like it or not.  Of course, we can always bribe them by providing the living standard facilities that the rest of us get, anyway, without having to host a nuclear waste dump.

Intimidation tactics against climate scientists

“I have been subject to all sorts of personal attacks, threats to my safety, my life, threats to my family, and it’s not just me, it’s
dozens of climate scientists in the US, in Australia and many other regions of the world where our findings are finding that climate change is real and potentially poses a threat to civilisation if we don’t confront that challenge. That represents a threat to certain vested interests and they’ve tried hard to discredit the science, often by discrediting and intimidating the scientists. “

Please donate to fund an Australian film-maker’s new documentary on today’s global nuclear issue

We have never asked for donations to Antinuclear, and we’re not doing so now.

However, we’re just very keen to support Frontline Films  David Bradbury is an Australian film-maker who has earned an international reputation as a film maker willing to go to extraordinary lengths for a cause, exposing political oppression and environmental vandalism.

Bradbury has won many international film festival prizes, received five Australian Film Industry awards, and two Academy Award nominations.

He is currently producing a very up to date film on the situation of nuclear power – globally. Bradbury’s Frontline Films nevertheless runs on the proverbiial shoe string – and with little encouragement from the mainstream media.

We believe that Frontline Film’s newest documentary will be a remarkable and eye-opening film. But David Bradbury needs funds to get these filmed events and interviews edited, and onto DVD and film. And then – to get this – the most up to date film about the global nuclear scene –   to the  2nd International Uranium Film Festival of Rio de Janeiro 28. June – 14. July 2012.

So – we’re calling for  donations. The Frontline Film Foundation  is a registered charity and has tax deductible status. All you need is these  banking details:

Western Australia ideal for “solar energy chimney”

Video:   http://www.smartplanet.com/blog/intelligent-energy/video-worlds-tallest-building-could-be-a-247-australian-solar-chimney/12558  World’s tallest building could be a 24/7 Australian solar chimney Smart Planet, By  | January 26, 2012, “…..Perth-based Hyperion Energy wants to build a kilometer-high “solar chimney” in the Western Australian outback, in partnership with German engineering firm Shlalch Bergermann. …. The monumental scheme rests on the principle that hot air rises.  A ground level canopy less than a millimeter thin and covering 3600 hectares would heat air that would escape up the .62-mile high shoot. Along the way, it would drive 32 turbines, with a total capacity of 200 megawatts – roughly the same as is often proposed for small modular nuclear reactors.

“The taller the tower and the bigger the collector, the more electricity is generated,” proclaims the Australian narrator in a Hyperion video promoting the CO2-free energy scheme (see below).

Hyperion believes the so-called “solar updraft tower” would provide much needed power to mining operations in western Australia, and could also connect to the grid. It hopes to go live by 2014.  Recharge News says the company is currently seeking approval for the $1.7 billion plan.

Unlike many solar projects, this one would keep the generators humming day and night, as the ground continues to give off captured heat from dusk to dawn, Hyperion says. ABC Rural Radio on wind farms and rural communities

Audio  http://www.abc.net.au/rural/telegraph/content/2012/s3413587.htm   Rural acceptance of wind farms, ABC Rural Radio – Bush Telegraph, By Greg Muller, 23 January  2012 Wind farms are popping up across the country and the forthcoming carbon tax will make renewable energy projects even more attractive to developers.

But wind turbines are dividing regional communities. Most objections are based on the aesthetics and noise but others see a diversity of income for farming communities, tourism opportunities and a source of clean energy.

The CSIRO has just completed a study, ‘Exploring community acceptance of rural wind farms in Australia’ and found support for wind energy is often greater than the media coverage suggests.

Worldwide depletion of groundwater

since the year 1900 up to the year 2008, something in the order of 4,500 cubic kilometres of depletion; most of that occurring in the last 50 years. That’s how much less water is in the ground today than 108 years ago.

Audio  http://www.abc.net.au/pm/content/2012/s3413882.htm   Is the world facing a groundwater crisis? ABC Rural radio Dubravka Voloder reported this story on   January 23, 2012 MARK COLVIN: Water is not just a sensitive subject in Australia. In a crowded world of seven billion people, water is an increasing source of friction and the lack of it could have damaging results.

International water researchers say that water shortages could affect world food production in the next few decades unless something’s done about it. The scientists are meeting in Sydney to discuss whether there’ll be a groundwater crisis. Continue reading

– Weighing just 215 grams, the SolarKindle is a solar powered cover for the Kindle E-Reader. A one hour charge in direct sunlight can provide almost three days worth of reading time, according to the company that created the device, SolarFocus Technology. Read more.

– A growing number of communities in the UK are starting renewable energy schemes through cooperatives and other forms of collaboration. A recent report states that 43 UK communities are producing renewable energy, having invested money to install solar, large wind turbines or hydro-electric power in their area. While these types of schemes are still relatively uncommon in Australia, a popular method of using the power of collaboration to install solar here is through buyers groups. Read more……..   http://www.energymatters.com.au/index.php?main_page=news_article&article_id=1980
