Anti Wind group exposed – poses as a “charitable foundation” – Senator Di Natale

Pollie Watch: Senator for Victoria holds anti-wind farm lobby to account Yes 2 renewables  November 14, 2013 by   Senator for Victoria Richard DiNatale (Australian Greens) has used his first speech since the 2013 election to hold the anti-wind farm lobby to account for spreading health fears, being subsidised by Australian taxpayers, and having links to fossil fuel investors.

Rather than distracting policy makers with spurious claims of a wind farm noise disease and wasting taxpayers money, Senator DiNatale suggests the anti-wind farm groups could campaign on the health impacts of poor air quality.

“We are seeing more people dying from poor air quality than we’re seeing die from the road toll. The mining and combustion and transport of coal is one of the reasons why that’s happening. But no, this group campaigns against a clean renewable form of energy, despite the fact that if we able to make the transition to cleaner renewable energy we mitigate against some of the most important health impacts…”

DiNatale takes aim at the Waubra Foundation and their status as a ‘health promotion charity,’

“The issue here is not that the Waubra Foundation should continue to spread the misinformation that it does. The issue here is that the Australian taxpayer should be subsidising that activity. [Australian taxpayers] are subsidising the work of the Waubra Foundation–that is, every person in this country makes a donation to the anti-wind activities of the Waubra Foundation.”

In his speech, DiNatale shines a light on the background of the founder and current chairman of the Waubra Foundation, Peter Mitchell. According to DiNatale, Mr Mitchell is a “current and former director of a number of coal, gas, and uranium related companies” as well as a background campaigning against wind farms:

“[Mitchell] is a director of Lowel Resources, who are basically the ultimate holding company of a resources fund, which are companies engaged entirely in mining and energy investment including oil, gas and uranium. He’s also the former director of the Australian Petroleum Institute Limited and Molopo Limited, a company entirely invested in oil and gas ……http://yes2renewables.org/2013/11/14/pollie-watch-senator-for-victoria-holds-anti-wind-farm-lobby-to-account/

Australia’s Public Health Association launches new website “Wind and Health”

text-websiteWind and health www.windandhealth.org   11 Nov 13  Wind farms are an expanding source of renewable energy, with about 90 countries granting commercial licenses in the past 30 years.

In Australia, there are 51 wind farms – 14 in South Australia, 13 in Western Australia, 12 in Victoria, 7 in New South Wales, 3 in Tasmania and 2 in Queensland.

They produce a significant amount of renewable energy in an environmentally friendly manner.  In some communities they have been controversial, with some questioning whether or not they can have effects on human health. This has been investigated by numerous government inquiries.

Wind and health, published by the Public Health Association of Australia, gathers the best available evidence and presents it dispassionately with the aim of informing rational public debate.

VIDEO: Dr Helen Caldicott on the legacy of Fukushima

The Future of Fukushima: Escape of Radiation is Virtually Unstoppable http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-future-of-fukushima-escape-of-radiation-is-virtually-unstoppable/5357229?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-future-of-fukushima-escape-of-radiation-is-virtually-unstoppable  7 Nov 13Google Hangout with one of the most articulate and passionate advocates of citizen action to remedy the nuclear and environmental crises: Dr Helen Caldicott. ot any questions about our planet’s nuclear future, chances of Fukushima issue being tackled and pros and cons of the nuclear energy?Come and ask Helen Caldicott, who the Smithsonian calls one of the most influential women of the 20th century, at a Google+ Hangout.

Fukushima’s Legacy: “Shut Down All Nuclear Power Plants!”

In one of her recent articles on RT.com, Helen Caldicott wrote:

“As I contemplate the future at Fukushima, it seems that the escape of radiation is virtually unstoppable. The levels of radiation in buildings 1, 2 and 3 are now so high that no human can enter or get close to the molten cores. It will therefore be impossible to remove these cores for hundreds of years if ever.”

She believes that one of the steps Japanese government should take to prevent worst case consequences is to cancel the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

VIDEO: Call to stop public subsidy to anti wind group Waubra Foundation

see-this.wayVIDEO Greens target anti-wind farm lobby group Waubra Foundation over oil industry links http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-11-07/greens-bid-muzzle-anti-wind-farm-lobby-waubra-foundation/5075190?section=vic By environment reporter Jake Sturmer and Sam Clark in Waubra The Greens have launched a bid to muzzle one of Australia’s most prominent anti-wind farm lobbies.

astroturf-windThe Waubra Foundation is named after the tiny north-western Victorian town of Waubra, which is home to more than 120 wind turbines and about 500 residents. Chief executive officer Sarah Laurie travels around the country, highlighting the alleged health problems wind turbines cause.

But the National Health and Medical Research Council has said there is insufficient scientific evidence linking wind turbines with health problems.

And the Greens say there is no credible scientific or medical body that supports the existence of wind turbine syndrome.

[The organisation] being granted status as a health charity means that they are the beneficiary of enormous public subsidies. Those public subsidies are being used to spread misinformation about wind energy and its health impacts.

Yet the Waubra Foundation collects donations as a health promotion charity and can accept tax deductible donations. Greens Senator Richard di Natale says that beggars belief. “We are, as a community, making a huge public contribution to the Waubra Foundation,” he said.

“[The organisation] being granted status as a health charity means that they are the beneficiary of enormous public subsidies.

“Those public subsidies are being used to spread misinformation about wind energy and its health impacts.”Senator di Natale has made a complaint to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commissioner (ACNC), calling for an urgent review.

Australian reporter stunned by cover-up and lies about Fukushima radiation

Book Mark WillacyReporter in Japan: I’m stunned by brazen cover-up and lies over effects of Fukushima radiation; An epic, unfolding tragedy — Physician: Response has been ‘unthinkable’ (VIDEO) http://enenews.com/reporter-in-japan-im-stunned-by-brazen-cover-up-and-lies-over-effects-of-fukushima-radiation-physician-response-has-been-unthinkable-video
Title: Japan – The Next Wave – Foreign Correspondent – ABC
Source: ABC’s Foreign Correspondent
Date: Nov. 5, 2013

Transcript Excerpts

Mark Willacy, reporter: I’ve been stunned by the brazen and often clumsy efforts to cover-up and lie about the effects and extent of the radiation damage. […] It’s abundantly clear many aspects of this epic, unfolding tragedy are yet to be written — the nuclear fallout will see to that.

Tomoko Koike. mother of 2 and 4 year old in Fukushima Precture: We do not know the real situation. We don’t know whats going on. I can’t trust them. […] My children had never contracted influenza before, even without vaccination. But they contracted it last year. Their vulnerability to illness has increased. […]

Willacy: Her children have already been screened and cleared in tests run by the Fukushima local government. But a follow up screening here at the private Hirata hospital revealed cysts on the thyroid gland of 4 year old Saki.

Koike: A couple of cysts were found. I was very shocked. I don’t know whether the examination by the prefecture was sloppy, or that she wasn’t examined properly.

Dr. Minoru Kamata: It was disclosed that the Fuksuhima health investigation committee was having several secret meetings. I feel the response to this issue has been unthinkable for a democratic nation.

John Pilger talks about his new film “Utopia” about Australia

John Pilger’s film Utopia, about Australia, is to be released in British cinemas on 15 November and in Australia in January

FilmIn the lucky country of Australia apartheid is alive and kicking  The Guardian, Wednesday 6 November 2013  …….The parliament stands in Barton, a suburb of Canberra named after the first prime minister of Australia, Edmund Barton, who drew up the White Australia Policy in 1901. “The doctrine of the equality of man,” said Barton, “was never intended to apply” to those not British and white-skinned.

Barton’s concern was the Chinese, known as the yellow peril; he made no mention of the oldest, most enduring human presence on Earth: the first Australians. They did not exist. Their sophisticated care of a harsh land was of no interest. Their epic resistance did not happen. Of those who fought the British invaders of Australia, the Sydney Monitor reported in 1838: “It was resolved to exterminate the whole race of blacks in that quarter.” Today, the survivors are a shaming national secret…….

According to the Credit Suisse Global Wealth report, Australia is the richest place on Earth.

Politicians in Canberra are among the wealthiest citizens. Their self-endowment is legendary. …… Continue reading

Hear-This-wayNorth west Victoria tapping into renewable energy http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-11-04/ag-energy-victoria/5067808Vic Country Hour  By Brett Worthington  Nov 2013,   Victoria’s north west is quickly developing a reputation as the state’s clean energy heartland.

Near Mildura, there are plans to build a power plant that uses waste from almond, grape and grain growing. Just meters away is a victoria-solarone of Australia’s largest solar electricity plants, which features satellite dishes covered in mirrors.

Melbourne University researcher David Coote says agricultural communities can slash their bills if they embrace renewable technology. “Somewhere like Mildura could easily target going 100 per cent renewable,” he said. Continue reading

New film “Utopia” exposes the brutal and racist Northern Territory Intervention against the Aborignes

FilmUtopia Review, Hey U Guys.Co.UK November 4, 2013 By  “…..‘The lying country’ might be more apt, as Utopia reveals to heartbreaking effect. Australia flourishes financially while its oldest residents are subjected to racism, persecution and in the case of “The Intervention’ (a government initiative aimed at breaking up supposed – and non-existent – Aboriginal paedophile rings), a trial by media that lurches into genocidal territory. This is a staggering, furious, essential film. It will dishearten you, yet it must be seen.” http://www.heyuguys.co.uk/utopia-review/

ABC TV “Foreign Correspondent” Mark Willacy on cancer cluster at Fukushima

see-this.wayThe Next Wave Broadcast: 03/11/2013 Reporter: Mark Willacy http://www.abc.net.au/foreign/content/2013/s3881365.htm

“………..Tests commissioned by the local authorities have discerned an alarming spike in the incidence of thyroid cancer in Fukushima children and while specialists and experts are reluctant to draw a definitive link between the tumours and the nuclear radiation that erupted from the stricken power station, they’re nonetheless deeply concerned.

“The doctors in Fukushima say that it shouldn’t be coming out so soon, so it can’t be related to the nuclear accident. But that’s very unscientific, and it’s not a reason we can accept.” AKIRA SUGENOYA Former Thyroid Surgeon & Chernobyl Volunteer

From the day the waves came, to the now concluding days of his posting, North Asia Correspondent Mark Willacy has covered every corner of this epic, unfolding drama. Among his reporting some very powerful work for Foreign Correspondent including the award winning ‘The Boy On The Bike’ and ‘The Fukushima Syndrome’.

Mark’s book ‘Fukushima’ is also a finalist in this year’s Walkley Awards.

Now he returns a final time to investigate worrying new claims a cancer cluster has developed around the radiation zone and the victims are children.

Hear Christine Milne on the carbon tax, and Abbott’s challenge for a double dissolution

Hear-This-wayMilne,-Christine-13AUDIO: Listen to the story (AM) Christine Milne says the Coalition will not call a double-dissolution election to scrap carbon tax ABC News, By Naomi Woodley 3 Nov 2013,   Greens leader Christine Milne says Prime Minister Tony Abbott does not have the courage to call a double-dissolution election in order to scrap the carbon tax before next July……..

Ms Milne has confirmed that her party will not support the Government’s repeal legislation, even with Labor’s proposed amendments.

“Labor isn’t even clear itself on what its amendments may or may not be. It hasn’t said what the target it would want in the bill to be either,” she said.  “Labor knows as well as I do that we have an emissions trading scheme already legislated. It is the law in Australia; it’s operating with a fixed price and will go to a flexible price.”What people who care about climate change want to hear is that there is a serious effort in the Federal Parliament to maintain the only scheme we have which is bringing down emissions. “And that’s especially in the week when the scientists are telling us that we have to do much more than we’re already doing.”

Labor’s stance and the Greens’ ongoing resistance means, in all likelihood, the Government will have to wait until the new Senate sits next July to pass the repeal bill, or risk going to a double-dissolution election before then.

However, the prospect of a fresh election does not bother Ms Milne. “I don’t think [Tony Abbott] would have the courage to go to a double-dissolution. There are plenty of governments who’ve had the trigger and not gone to a double-dissolution and I think Tony Abbott would not have the courage to do it frankly,” she said…… http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-11-02/milne-abbott-carbon-tax-double-dissolution/5065684

Top Secret Trans Pacific Partnership – some of its secrets unravelled

Full Show: The Top Secret Trade Deal You Need to Know About Moyers and Company  November 1, 2013

BILL MOYERS: This week on Moyers & Company… TPP: the big story you haven’t heard about.

YVES SMITH: There’d be no reason to keep it so secret if it was in the interest of the public.

DEAN BAKER: This really is a deal that’s being negotiated by corporations for corporations and any benefit it provides to the bulk of the population of this country will be purely incidental.

“A Corporate Trojan Horse”: Obama Pushes Secretive TPP

A cornerstone of President Obama’s plan to create more American jobs is a new agreement called the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), referred to by some as “NAFTA on steroids.” While negotiations are being carried out in secret and very little about the terms has been leaked, enough is known to worry about its possible effect on trade unions and our copyright and patent laws, not to mention environmental, health and safety regulation

This week on Moyers & Company, Bill discusses the TPP with two perceptive observers of the global economy. Yves Smith is an expert on investment banking who runs the Naked Capitalism blog, a go-to site for information and insight on the business and ethics of finance. Dean Baker is co-director of the progressive Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, DC.

Also on this week’s broadcast, a preview of  Robert Greenwald’s new documentary, Unmanned: America’s Drone WarsIt’s release coincided with a first: victims of deadly drone attacks testified at a special briefing for members of Congress. In this week’s show we feature clips from the film, which shares testimony, stories and alarming news on the fatal impact of our drone strategy…..http://billmoyers.com/episode/full-show-the-top-secret-trade-deal-you-need-to-know-about/
