Aborigines’ Maralinga land still radioactive

Maralinga land ‘not ready’ for handing back  ABC News  Nov 11, 2009 An ex-serviceman who was exposed to radiation during Maralinga atomic testing in the 1960s says land should not be handed over to traditional owners until a contaminated area is cleaned up or fenced off.
The South Australian Government says the Tjarutja people are set to give their final approval to a plan for the vast expanse of desert in SA’s far north-west to be returned. It says legislation will be introduced to State Parliament following that approval. The previous federal government cleaned up radioactive material at Maralinga, but South Australian ex-serviceman Avon Hudson says some land is still contaminated.
“They should’ve took (sic) proper measures to prevent further contamination of the Aborigines, they suffered enough during the actual bomb tests and years later,” he said.
Mr Hudson says Tjarutja people who cannot read warning signs erected there will be at great risk unless the area is fenced off or contamination cleaned up.

  1. It was a most shocking thing to hear that the cleanup was abandoned in favour of a shallow burial procedure that still leaves much high-level long-term radioactive poison within a few metres of the surface and scattered throughout the shallow earth cover.

Apparently the Cover Up Mob tried to electrically melt the soil into some glass form that would contain the radiation and there were so many things going wrong, such as dangerous explosions of subterranean bottles cavities and vessels, that the “safe” method of containing the radioactivity had to be abandoned, and thus THE AREA OF MARALINGA AND OTHER DETONATION SITES IS STILL VERY UNSAFE.

Don’t eat the Maralinga POISON witchetty grubs.

  2. Alan Parkinson, an engineer, tried to expose the shortcomings of the cleanup and was a major target of industry and government Cover Up.

“He was also a member of the Maralinga Rehabilitation Technical Advisory Committee, (MARTAC) until his contract was suddenly and unexpectedly terminated in 1998. No reason for his dismissal was ever given by his employer.”

In other words, a whistleblower, Alan Parkinson, started speaking the truth in a society ruled by those who consider speaking the truth to be a major crime, and so had his job terminated.Read some of it at
