South Australian govt ordered to pay legal costs of anti uranium protestors
Anti-uranium protesters win legal costs from SA Government , ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), 30 June 2010, A court has ordered the South Australian Government to pay the legal bills of nine people who were assaulted and unlawfully detained during an anti-uranium protest.The Supreme Court had already awarded more than $700,000 in damages.
Back in April, it found eight protesters, a news cameraman and a girl were unlawfully detained and assaulted during a protest at the Beverley mine in South Australia’s far north-east, a decade ago.
Police locked some of the group in a shipping container and the girl, who was 11, had capsicum spray used on her.
The judge awarded extra damages over comments by the South Australian treasurer and police minister that they would not negotiate.

This outcome is wrong, and who in their right mind takes an 11yo to a violent protest? They ought to ask what kind ofbias lead to such a warped judgement.

mmm …. interesting that “Logical” finds the Supreme Court to be “wrong”. That doesn’t sound all that logical to me.
Who would take an 11 year old to a “violent” protest?
Well, perhaps someone who really cared about that 11 year old’s future, and also someone who did not expect the noble officers of the law to behave violently.
