Northern Territory Labor MP says Muckaty nuclear dump far from certain

Labor’s Mr Snowdon says he is standing up for Territorians and there is no guarantee the dump will be at Muckaty.

Muckaty nuke dump not a done deal: Snowdon, ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), By David Coady, 17 Aug 2010. Federal Member for Lingiari Warren Snowdon has suggested that building a nuclear waste dump at Muckaty Station in the Northern Territory is not a done deal.

Muckaty Station, north of Tennant Creek, has been nominated by the Federal Government as the site for a low-level nuclear waste repository.

But Labor’s Mr Snowdon says he is standing up for Territorians and there is no guarantee the dump will be at Muckaty.

“There’s absolutely no guarantee at all that this will proceed at Muckaty,” he said.

“There are a whole range of things that are happening.

“There’s currently a legal case on foot, so we don’t know what the outcome will be and I would say to people just to be patient.”
