Greenpeace stunt gets reaction from ANZ bank on coal power

Greenpeace four charged over ANZ stunt, Brisbane Times, October 21, 2010A Four Greenpeace activists have been charged for a sky-high stunt in which a giant banner was unfurled down the ANZ Bank’s headquarters in protest over coal-fired power stations.Two activists abseiled down the face of the headquarters on Queen Street, in the city centre, at about 8.15am (AEST) on Thursday.
They placed an eight by eight-metre banner reading “ANZ: Polluting your world” on the building.
Greenpeace say the ANZ is the dirtiest bank in Australia, pouring nearly $1.6 billion into coal infrastructure over the past five years.
Greenpeace spokesman James Lorenz said another 12 coal-fired power stations were ready for financing in Australia, and they’ve called on the bank not to back them.
“Greenpeace is not asking for them to completely divest in coal. We’re just saying don’t fund any new coal-fired power stations,” Mr Lorenz told AAP.
Mr Lorenz said the protest worked and ANZ had agreed to hold a meeting with Greenpeace within a fortnight…..
