Australians had better wake up FAST to the nuclear lies

In today’s news, we have the USA-Australia agreement that Australia can import nuclear technology from USA. And we have Martin Ferguson pushing his nuclear masters’ barrow on uranium to India, against his own government’s policy.

We learn that sea levels are rising much faster than climate scientists had anticipated.  Doesn’t sound like a good omen for Australia’s planned nuclear reactors – along the Eastern coast.

Australians are being conned big time, by the fossil fuel lobby and their political lackeys, as Climate Denial wins in the public airwaves.

But, under the radar of the carbon tax uproar, the nuclear lobby is working overtime.

The nuclear/uranium lobby must be pretty desperate. Interestingly, their former top spinner, Ziggy Switkowski, has been strangely silent lately.  Well,
that could be because  Ziggy does like to be sure that he’s on the winning side.

Meanwhile Australia’s new top Nuclear Archbishop, Paul Greenfield, is already doing   doublespeak as he regrets Fukushima, but pushes for “safer” new nuclear…Christina Macpherson

Australia’s Liberal Party in the grip of fossil fuel lobby

…..could it be that the credulous and uninformed are being preyed upon today using the same chicanery big tobacco employed to such good effect in the ‘90’s; back then the credo was the same as today: deny the science, or failing that, delay action!…..

So we see the big polluters following the sordid history of big tobacco—creating doubt to delay regulation and extend by decades their market share…The fossil fuel lobby in Australia and the USA doesn’t attempt to convince the well informed: they target the credulous

Accelerated rise in global sea levels

Sea levels rising higher and faster, Sydney Morning Herald, Ben Cubby,May 5, 2011, SEA levels will rise higher and faster than the United Nations predicted just four years ago, a major international study has found.

The new data suggests that, on average, the seas will rise by up to 1.6 metres by the year 2100 – a finding that has serious implications for Australian governments grappling with coastal planning.

…… The rate is expected to accelerate as the world warms this century and the process will be compounded as more ice cover is lost. White ice fields reflect sunlight away from the Earth’s surface, whereas the darker oceans absorb more of the sun’s heat, amplifying global warming…….

Greens will not give up on renewable energy feed-in tariff

”The entrenched fossil fuel lobby still fills the airwaves and the corridors of parliaments with their nonsense that renewables cannot deliver and that clean coal or nuclear power are the only answers.

while the Government seems oddly implacably opposed to a feed-in tariff, we are not giving up on this world-leading policy option

Renewables could power nation: Milne, Canberra Times, BY CHRIS JOHNSON,  05 May, 2011  Opposition to renewable energy is more dangerous now than denying climate change even exists.

That’s according to Greens senator Christine Milne, who will use an address to the Clean Energy Council conference in Melbourne today to criticise the Government’s failure to fully embrace the sector……. Continue reading
