Tony Abbott and Campbell Newman ignore Queensland’s increasing weather extremes

ballot-boxQueensland election 2015: Greens label climate change the ‘overwhelming challenge of our time’ ABC News, 13 Jan 15  By Alison Middleton The Greens say tackling the challenge of climate change is as important as dealing with terrorism, as the party steps up its campaigning in the Queensland election.

Greens leader Christine Milne joined Queensland Greens spokesman and candidate for Moggill, Charles Worringham on the campaign trail today.

“Extremism and murder are horrific and have to be dealt with in every nation and internationally but so too does global warming, it is the overwhelming challenge of our time,” Ms Milne said.

“If you want to keep Australians safe the best thing that you can do this century is respond to the climate crisis.”

Ms Milne said the Prime Minister and Premier were both bad for the environment.

“We have Tony Abbott and Campbell Newman joined together to undermine the safety of Queenslanders because Queenslanders are going to be subject to more and more extreme weather events,” she said……….http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-01-12/greens-highlight-climate-change-challenge-during-qld-election/6012980

  1. The following may have been broadcast via media outlets, however if so, I missed it:
” A pulse of extreme UV radiation from the flare ionized Earth’s upper atmosphere over Australia and the Indian Ocean. Mariners and ham radio operators may have noticed a brief communications blackout at frequencies below about 10 MHz. This map from NOAA shows the affected region:..” http://www.weather.com
    (see 13 January 2014)
The intensity of this radiation is referred to as extreme; what cosmic rays may be involved are not indicated. It may be that we are not as protected as we once were.

  3. ‘”Nearly two-thirds of villagers surveyed across rainforests in Indonesian and Malaysian Borneo are against large-scale deforestation due to the adverse impacts on livelihoods and the environment, finds a comprehensive new study across 185 communities. The research, conducted over a one-year period by an international team of scientists, is published in this week’s issue of the journal PLOS ONE.”

In the link above there is a picture offering a comparison of deforestation in countries to our North from 2000-2010.

“Latin America lost nearly 260,000 square kilometers (100,000 square miles) of forest — an area larger than the state of Oregon — between 2001 and 2010, finds a new study [PDF] that is the first to assess both net forest loss and regrowth across the Caribbean, Central and South America.”

and the raping and the pillage continues in those countries, against the wishes of the majority.

As they grow, plants trees absorb carbon dioxide, building their fiber as they release oxygen. Carbon dioxide is not toxic. The ceiling created in our atmosphere, holds far more dangerous pollutants. These toxic emissions will not keep us alive, they will kill us.
Currently the seas phytoplankton, the food for a number of organisms and the source of around 40% of our oxygen died between 1950-2010. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1298596/Massive-40-decline-oceans-phytoplankton-puts-entire-food-chain-threat.html

And the death rate of sea life is climbing dramatically.
But the real toxins are rarely discussed.

We can live longer without food or water, but we only have three minutes without oxygen.

Who has bothered to measure the healthy supply of oxygen for mankind, for the life in the sea and our earth’s lungs?

  4. Need to correct/clarify;
where I have written “Currently the seas phytoplankton, the food for a number of organisms and the source of around 40% of our oxygen died between 1950-2010,”
    :
Scientists believe that phytoplankton contribute between 50 to 85 percent of the oxygen in Earth’s atmosphere, around 40% of that was believed to have died between 1950-2010
    http://earthsky.org/earth/how-much-do-oceans-add-to-worlds-oxygen

The health of our oceans are so very important, but likewise so too, is that of our earth and our atmosphere.
