According to Bob Hawke, Aborigines can get a decent life only if Australia imports nuclear waste?
Former PM Bob Hawke wants Australia to become nuclear dumping groundHe made the strong statement today after receiving an honorary degree from the University of Sydney …… Speaking on his 87th birthday, Australia’s longest-serving Labor prime minister said that he had been advised by leading experts shortly before finishing his role that Australia was best placed to safely store nuclear waste…….
“As far as we can see into the future, energy generated by nuclear reactors will have to be a continuing and important part of the mix of energy which is used to offset the debilitating effects of the energy generated by fossil fuels.
“We must understand that a positive decision in regard to this fundamentally viable issue can provide a win-win situation.”
He said countries generating nuclear power would pay to have their waste stored in Australia.
Mr Hawke said a percentage of that money should then go towards fixing “the greatest stain” in Australian history — the gap between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians.
“In my judgment if Australia makes this positive decision to increase the source of revenue available to government then we should hypothecate a percentage of that income to reducing that gap,” he said. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/former-pm-bob-hawke-wants-australia-to-become-nuclear-dumping-ground/news-story/d4ec7b4c70ad61f88afef6bd85a798f8
