New South Wales National Party to embrace nuclear energy

 Nuclear energy must be considered for NSW: Nationals leader ANDREW CLENNELL, STATE POLITICAL EDITOR, The Daily Telegraph , May 19, 2017 NUCLEAR energy should be considered as a way forward to provide energy security in NSW, Deputy Premier John Barilaro will tell his first National party conference as leader today.

Mr Barilaro, who blames “political correctness” for restricting debate on such issues, will point to countries such as France, Finland and the US as users of nuclear power as he will argue at the conference in Broken Hill that the option should be considered given an energy crisis in Australia……

we know we have a power crisis, that energy costs are crushing both businesses, farmers and families, yet we don’t talk about nuclear energy — guaranteed power to millions, lower bills and next to no emissions.”…….

3. I think that it’s because the nuclear industry is in danger of dying. That would be unacceptable to governments that have nuclear weapons, or aspire to having them. It is very problematic, as for China and Russia, the State-run nuclear enterprises do not have to make a profit, and show themselves to be economically viable.

   For the “Western world” nuclear power is supposed to be a commercially viable enterprise. As the conventional nukes are not that, the pressure now is to convince the public that the “new nukes” will be economic. The global lobby got a big shock with South Australia’s rejection of the waste dump. But of course, they’re persisting, and so Australia’s involvement in new nukes is much desired.

   Australia always has to be subservient to the USA. With some reason, perhaps, as Australian governments look to USA for defence. So Australia will probably cave in on this one, especially as it is getting no media coverage etc,and the public is unaware.
