Antinuclear

Australian news, and some related international items

Ask the Australian Senate to consider this: why was South Australia chosen – to house Lucas Heights’ nuclear waste?

The appropriateness and thoroughness of the site selection process for a national radioactive waste management facility at Kimba and Hawker in South Australia.

That’s the first question to consider  in the Terms Of Reference for the Senate  Economics References Committee.    It means a journey of approx 1700 Km

This is in conflict with International Atomic Energy Agency’s best practce – as set out in The Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management::

“radioactive waste should, as far as is compatible with the safety of the management of such material, be disposed of in the State in which it was generated”.
