Contrary to what ANSTO says, nuclear waste returning to Australia IS High Level Waste (HLW)

Scotland’s Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) clearly state that it considers radioactive waste generated at Sellafield in England, and heading to Australia, to be vitrified High Level waste, despite what ANSTO call it. https://www.gov.scot/…/0038…/00389151-pdf/govscot%3Adocument

SEPA notes the policy will allow:
(i) substitution of either Prototype Fast Reactor (PFR) or cemented Materials Test
Reactor (MTR) raffinate wastes with a radiologically equivalent amount of vitrified
high level waste currently stored at the Sellafield site, and
(ii) substitution of PFR with a radiologically equivalent amount of cemented MTR, both
wastes currently stored at Dounreay…. https://www.gov.scot/binaries/content/documents/govscot/publications/consultation-responses/2012/03/dounreay-radioactive-waste-substitution-consultation-response-paper/documents/00389151-pdf/00389151-pdf/govscot%3Adocument?fbclid=IwAR3ck-p_EXmxq_9Z1XLhhn-N2hq11NGS1akSr8Zp5fUP5Vexklg3FGeR2EY

Gary See Perhaps also of interest. British nuclear policy explicitly states that its intention was to substitute ILW with a smaller volume of HLW for return to complete contracts
“… This would involve returning a smaller amount of HLW that would be radiologically equal to the greater volume of LLW and ILW normally associated with reprocessing…” https://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20031221042814/http:/www.defra.gov.uk/environment/consult/radwaste/pdf/radwaste.pdf (link did not work)
