Solar energy park opened in Victoria

Ballarat Solar Park officially opened  The Courier , CATHY MORRIS, 29 Nov, 2009
The park, located near Ballarat airport, which will provide enough energy for 150 houses into the national grid, was officially opened Saturday.

Ms Nunn said she thought solar parks were a way forward to a more environmentally friendly future.

“I think Australia is one of the best countries in the world to generate solar power,” she said.

“I just hope it expands and gets a lot bigger and we produce more energy form the sun.

“You have got to start somewhere, by having these parks around, surely it will penetrate into people’s consciousness that we need in Australian to produce energy from different sources.”

Project manager Michael McCartney said it was great to see the Ballarat public supporting the project on the weekend.

“It (the park) brings the project right to the doorstop of the community,” he said.

“They can actually see renewable energy being generated.”

The $42 million Central Victoria Solar City project includes solar parks located in Ballarat and Bendigo. It has received funding from federal and state governments.
