Renewable energy for base load power and more jobs
“It is a myth that renewable energy can’t produce a reliable base load.”……. According to the report,replacing the fossil fuel energy industry in Northern NSW and Queensland with renewables would create 40,000 jobs – twice the number employed now by the energy sector.
Renewable energy plans encouraged, Northern Star, 17th November 2010 … ADOPTING renewable energy would not only create more jobs than the current fossil-burning sector, but also provide a base load that could power the country, Gordon Fraser-Quick said yesterday.Mr Fraser-Quick, Southern Cross University’s Alumnus of the Year, was speaking ahead of tonight’s launch of the Stationary Energy Sector report and the Beyond Zero Emissions Plan to slash greenhouse gases.“Beyond Zero Emissions is a co-operative approach between hundreds of individuals who have identified with the University of Melbourne’s Energy Research Institute that it is possible right now to produce all of Australia’s stationary (electricity) energy needs using renewable energy,” he said.“It is a myth that renewable energy can’t produce a reliable base load.”…….

“The plan is about Australia creating new investment markets using its own people and resources to service its own energy needs,” said the report’s co-author, Matthew Wright.
Melbourne Energy Institute’s director Professor Mike Standiford said the technology already existed. “The only obstacle is political will,” he said……
