State’s future in mining just became brighter, Greg Kelton , The Advertiser, April 27, 2011 SOUTH Australia will one day be “a titan of the global resource landscape” but is fighting to keep manufacturing jobs, an economic report says.

…….The report says while the state has the potential to be a big player in the global resource markets, without giving any time frame, it is struggling with its manufacturing industry sector……….This is the second economic report this month that has cast a shadow over the state’s economic performance, with the Commonwealth Bank saying two weeks ago only population growth and solid construction work were driving the state’s economy.

The economy will be a significant election issue for 2014 and the Opposition is expected to concentrate on the economic aspects of the Labor Government’s performance over the next few months laying the groundwork for a full-on attack leading to the election.

On mining, the report says the state’s mining prospects were not lifted because miners discovered new deposits but because the world discovered additional demand for minerals.
