This is the first time in a long time that there is a chance to have a say on the broken and racist radioactive waste management laws. Submissions to the federal government’s new draft framework close on the 13th November 2026. The management of nuclear waste in Australia has always involved a profound disrespect for the rights and interests of Aboriginal First Nations from the British bomb testings in the 1950s and 60s to the present day. The current laws give the Federal Government powers to override native title, environment laws, Aboriginal cultural heritage protections and state and territory governments.
