Plastic. Your Body Is Partly Plastic. So Is Everything Else.

Nuclear. The human species is really at a crossroads. In all these crises – lies abound. Take the lie that recycling plastic works. No it doesn’t. Recycling plastic exists to enable the oil corporations to keep right on selling oil, and keep the plastics industry going.. COP27 is full of greenwash lies, as fossil fuel lobbyists buy national governments.  But the best lie at COP27 is the one about nuclear power solving climate change.  The only problem it really solves is that it counters and obscures the  public’s bad image of nuclear weaponry –   small nuclear reactors for instance –  totally useless against global heating, but a convenient “nice” step towards nuclear weapons. Makes all the nuclear workers feel better.

Australian and more -Nuclear news – week to 7 November

Some bits of good news, Here are all the positive environmental stories from 2022 so far.

Coronavirus:  Long Covid’s astounding impact, explained in numbers and charts – video.

Global Heating: UN weather report: Climate woes bad and getting worse faster.

Nuclear. Where to start?   Today, I am taken with the significance, and danger, of that word “Ambiguity“. It is the means by which we are kept in the dark, by which our governments can start a war, a nuclear war, at any time, without the bother of consulting parliament or people. Why are we letting ourselves put up with this farcical state of affairs – put across by the American government, and repeated by the Australian, (and no doubt other) government?

There’s the ambiguity about Taiwan .  Governments of both USA and Australia recognise Taiwan as part of China, legally a province of China. Yet apparently we’re happy to go to war against China on behalf of Taiwan.

There’s America’s ambiguity about  being the first to attack with a nuclear weapon.  President Biden approved a version of the policy from the Obama administration that permits the use of nuclear weapons not only in retaliation to a nuclear attack, but also to respond to non-nuclear threats.

AUSTRALIA.

Australia is addicted to fighting other people’s wars.  As Australia gets American nuclear-capable bombers, it risks becoming a dangerous military mess and target – like Guam. ‘Target Oz’: Defence Strategic Review must address nuclear risks. Australia’s $multibillion submarine madness and the phoney China threat.     Australia’s ongoing nuclear submarine debacle – ‘A tangle of overlapping interests’, Why does Australia still sell uranium to China?

This is what Australia needs to bring to Egypt for COP27

U.S. company Westinghouse wants to build a fleet of nuclear reactors in Europe, starting with Poland.

TODAY. Limits to Albanese’s autonomy – we need a new Gough!

Well, Australia has decided to walk away from previous policy – and now will abstain from voting on the U.N. Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

That’s not that much, but it’s something.

Except for Gough Whitlam, I can’t recall any Australian Prime Minister diverging from our standard subservience to the USA. And look what happened to Gough!

I think that you can safely bet, that before this new decision about abstaining from voting, Anthony Albanese had a little chat with Joe Biden – along the lines of – “Are you sure that this OK, Joe?” Presumably Joe said “OK, but don’t make a big fuss about it”

You see, ever since World War 2, Australia has feared attack from someone – Russia? China? (It used to be Japan – but now we’re doing military exercises with them) And the USA would save us. Heck they’re saving us so thoroughly thaqt now we’ve got targets all over the place – Pine Gap, Western Australia, Darwin, – and before long – nuclear submarine bases.

Gough Whitlam saw what was happening, and wanted to ask uncomfortable questions about Pine Gap.

Ever since then, it’s been toe the U.S. line on everything military – Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine …. China.

The most significant obsequiousness is Australia’s cringing silence on the fate of our courageous citizen – Julian Assange.

We are expected to believe that Albanese is working quietly behind the scenes to free Julian Assange.

Well, I don’t believe that. I think that Albanese will do some deal with Biden that Assange will get home to Australia only if he has been humiliated, made to plead guilty, and eventually returned, a completely broken man, to his homeland.

Well, that would be a pretty gutless effort on Albanese’s part. But – a tad better than the Liberal’s fulsome adoration of America.

Alas, like the Australian Labor Party as a whole, Albanese is pretty limited. We need a new Gough.

Some bits of good news – Whale Reunions, Green Hydrogen and Other Good News on the Climate.A disappointing development. Up until very recently, I would not have considered posting news items from New Corpse, or any other pro-Trump or very right-wing source.

Sorry, everyone  (- of course I don’t want Quanon and Trump to be in power in 2024), but if right-wing nutters happen to be the ones opposing nuclear war , or telling unpleasant truths about Ukraine, –   then I ‘m supporting their views on those matters. And it’s about time that “progressives” woke up.

Australian and some other, nuclear news – week to 11 October.

Some bits of good news –  What went right this week: an iconic river reborn, plus more.   Around 90 per cent of the plastic in our oceans could be gone by 2040-(they claim, anyway).

A tragic and predictable story.  Another Australian, Wilfred Burchett went to Hiroshima in the first days following the atomic bomb. He photographed the victims, the devastation, the horror, done by the USA. and he wrote about it all.
What happened to Burchett’s  record of this –   it disappeared, then came the never-ending persecution of him, and his banishment from his own country.
They’ll do it more subtly to Assange. They’ll aim to break his spirit and his mental health.
For Australia, America’s lackey – the best face-saving outcome will be – to make Assange plead guilty. Then he spends some time in the cruellest USA prison. then a “kindly” U.S. President  magnaminously lets him go to an.. Australian gaol. TODAY. For Australia, it really is time to take the toys from the boys.

Australia’s new Treasurer, Jim Chalmers prepares to deliver his first budget. Australia is out of the appalling corruption of the Scott Morrison government, but still well in the grip of the USA military-industrial-corporate complex.

Therefore – despite the desperate needs, spelt out by Jim Chalmers himself – troubled global economy, ballooning deficit, – not to mention aged care crisis, health crisis, flood crisis, homeless crisis – Australia still prioritises weapons spending. Callum Foote writes:

Australia is the fourth largest importer of weapons in the world, behind Saudi Arabia, India and Egypt.

Over the next decade, the Australian government will invest $200 billion in the Defence Force with an eye to support the weapons export industry. In line with these goals, Australian military spending has shot through the roof – from $10 billion in 2000 to just under $50 billion in the last budget. The big winners? Largely foreign multinational defence contractors, and plenty of small local ones too; they’re growing along with the public spending.

Now we’re being told that we have to weapon up – against that evil China who (inexplicably) is supposed to be poised to attack Australia. We’re told to stick to that wonderful Fools-Based-International-Order – (meaning back whatever next military venture USA/NATO decides on)

But we don’t only blow our budget on our own defence – now we are obliged to cater to the whim of Zelensky, with his unrealistic goal of completely defeating Russia, and retaking Crimea into Ukraine. When will this weapons extravaganza party for Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, BAE etc ever stop?

Another nuclear/climate worrying week – Australia and beyond

Matavai Pacific Cultural Arts activist holds a sign asking Pacific governments to “Vote YES for Climate Justice” as the Vanuatu Government and civil society organisations seek an advisory opinion at the International Court of Justice. Greenpeace Australia Pacific, Pacific Island Students Fighting Climate Change (PISFCC) and the Pacific Island Climate Action Network (PICAN) were joined by 40 climate activists for two days of mobilisation training in Suva, Fiji. The training was held in the lead up to the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) in Fiji, where activists will call on PIF leaders to endorse an advisory opinion on climate change from the International Court of Justice.

Nuclear. I got distracted from  this main subject this week-  because of the climate’s urgent reality.  It was about King Charles – being told, by that apparently mindless flibbertigibbet Liz Truss,  not to attend the COP 27.  And he obeyed . Isn’t that just symptomatic of the whole damn problem?  We’re all supposed to be ‘nice’ don’t rock the established boat –   even though the bloody boat is on fire!.

TODAY. Going blindly into the climate apocalypse

Yeah- I promised myself that my websites and articles would stick to the nuclear threat, and to exposing nuclear lies. Yeah – forget climate – everybody else is doing it.

Trouble is – they’re not!. The rich, powerful, influential people are not paying attention to global heating.

Today – the perfect example of corporate control over our planet’s future! King Charles, of the UK and British Commonwealth of Nations, caves in and obeys Prime Minister Liz Truss – he will now not attend the Cop 27 Climate Summit, where he was scheduled to give a speech.

King Charles will shut up about climate, the environment and our future. That is symbolic of what is happening world-wide

good, supposedly educated, quite affluent people in the so-called developed world are being “nice”, not rocking the boat, not causing others to be anxious, not discussing unpleasant things like global heating – that would be bad taste!

Never mind that our teenagers don’t read books etc, spend their lives on TikTok, with their dwindling attention spans. But some of them are depressed and suicidal. Could that be because those who do think , see that we are giving them a terrible future?

Meanwhile – in the “undeveloped” i.e poor countries, – well, along with drought, hunger, sea level rise, extreme weather, flooding ……. it is a struggle to stay alive, not much energy to deal with climate change. And anyway, their “betters” – powerful , mainly white, people will make their decisions for them. Just a pity that the “betters” are too busy making money, increasing material “goods”, and entertaining themselves.

I still think that I must stick to nuclear. But then again, perhaps it won’t matter – as extreme weather might put a stop to the nuclear industry, along with everything else. Now there’s a silver lining to the gloomy climate picture!

On the disappearance of our international website – nuclear-news.net

This website is taking over for now

One is tempted to think that it’s a conspiracy by the nuclear lobby.

But no – it’s the good old bureaucratic bungling. First the nuclear-news.net website was registered under Digital Business Media (Australia). But they’ve disappeared – and sent nuclear-news.net to TPP Wholesale, and they sent it to Webcentral Group Limited dba Melbourne It (Australia). Webcentral Group Limited dba Melbourne It (Australia) sent it back to TPP Wholesale – who assure me that they will fix it – (but when?)
