Mining chiefs to advise minister on mineral resources tax | The Australian September 20, 2010 THE policy transition group overseeing the government’s mineral resources rent tax has met for the first time in Canberra today.

The high-ranking group, headed up by Resources Minister Martin Ferguson and former BHP chairman Don Argus, will consult with industry groups and hopes to have at least a couple of key issues resolved by the end of the year…..

The policy group will examine and consider the point in the mining process at which the tax should kick in…….

Mr Ferguson announced during the election campaign the policy transition group will map out a timeline for the consultations by September 24, saying at the time that the “consultation process will be supported by the release of a draft paper for discussion, and a formal submission process, along with further consultation”.

Former Woodside Petroleum executive Keith Spence, former Rio Tinto executive David Klingner, KPMG chairman Chris Jordan, Toro Energy chairwoman Erica Smyth and David Parker, a member of Treasury’s executive board comprise the other panel members.
