Hypocrisy of Rudd government on selling uranium to Russia
Never mind that they got elected on promises to repeal Howard’s plans to dump nuclear waste on Northern Territory aboriginal land.
Never mind that the Rudd government’s own Senate inquiry recommended that selling uranium to Russia was unsafe, could increase nuclear weapons proliferation.
But – the sheer hypocrisy of Kevin Rudd, posing as the world’s great disarmament leader (with another old pro-nuker, Gareth Evans), and then deciding to send nuclear fuel to Russia!
Right at the time when the world tries to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, and while Russia is now supplying Iran’s nuclear power plant!

Good intentions…taking back nuclear waste, international environmental law, “….former Labor Foreign Minister Gareth Evans, now Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s point man on nuclear non-proliferation, echoed last month’s assertion by former Australian Labor Party Prime Minister Bob Hawke that the country had to view the establishment of a nuclear waste industry as a moral, financial and environmental response to climate change by expanding its role in the atomic energy fuel trade and taking back all waste generated in foreign nuclear power plants derived from the uranium it sells on the global market.
Evans’ proposal is at odds with the current policies of the Rudd government, which maintains that it will not import nuclear fuel waste,
Radioactive waste dumped in Kakadu National Park

THE equivalent of six Olympic-size swimming pools of radioactive soil and mining equipment has been buried in Kakadu National Park.Parks Australia said it was not nuclear waste and the level of radioactivity was low.
The soil and equipment had been stored in shipping containers.
It has now been put in containers with a structural life of 1000 years and buried four metres down.
