Greed and stupidity in uranium investment world

You would think that investors would wake up to the hype!  The so-called “nuclear renaissance” is just not happening.

Even the market for nuclear weapons is now looking dodgy – these being no protection whatever from terrorists, (in fact  a target for them)

China is looking to slow down its economy.-  China’s supposed  great uranium binge is a BHP executives’ fantasy

There is  a glut of uranium supply, made worse by the weapons reduction program, which now supplies  uranium (mining not needed)

From today’s CTV News: Despite the low spot and term prices, uranium producers have shown almost no discipline by reducing current or planned output,”…Despite falling uranium prices, worldwide spending on exploration and mine development grew 133 per cent to $1.6-billion in 2008 from 2006″

In sunny Australia, passing up the chance to develop 21st Century renewables,  we are mindlessly letting banks, super funds etc,  put our money into this gaping hole of impending loss – the almost certainly doomed uranium industry.

What Australia’s nuclear company Silex Systems doesn’t tell you

Silex Systems jumps on the Climate Change bandwagon – presumably to draw in investors.  In fact, solar energy is but a small fraction of their basically nuclear business.  But – as the nuclear power industry languishes – well – a bit of solar can make you look good, for the moment.

What they don’t tell you is that while their nuclear laser technology awaits licensing, there are serious safety concerns about this technology. It will make the  uranium enrichment  process a lot faster and easier, but also easier to convert, without detection into nuclear weapons material. hence the Silex Systems laser uranium enrichment process is seen a s a nuclear weapons proliferation danger.

Iranian nuclear scientist might have been double agent

Was Iranian Nuclear Scientist a Double Agent? | The Atlantic Wire, By Max Fisher  July 15, 2010, Alleged Iranian nuclear scientist Shahram Amiri has returned to Iran after 13 months in the U.S. It’s still unclear what happened during his stay and why he returned home. We may never know the full truth, but several new reports point to the possibility that he was an Iranian double agent all along. Under this theory, Amiri would have faked his defection to the U.S. (or allowed himself to be abducted, depending on whose story you believe), where he either fed the U.S. false information or acquired information to send back to Iran or both. Here’s what we know……. Was Iranian Nuclear Scientist a Double Agent? | The Atlantic Wire

65 years ago – the start of the nuclear radiation cover-up

When reports of thousands in Hiroshima and Nagasaki afflicted with a strange and horrible new disease emerged, General Groves, at first, called it all a “hoax”  and “propaganda” and speculated that the Japanese had different “blood.”

Secrecy, Cover-ups & Deadly Radiation: On the Birth of the Nuclear Age 65 Years Ago Greg MitchellJuly 14, 2010 While most people trace the dawn of the nuclear era to August 6, 1945, and the dropping of the atomic bomb over the center of Hiroshima, it really began three weeks earlier, in the desert near Alamogordo, New Mexico,  with the top-secret Trinity test. Its sixty-fifth anniversary will be marked—or mourned, if you will—this Friday, July 16. . Continue reading

Row over nuclear compensation intended for Australian veterans

Last night, the Ministry of Defence accepted that the payment made by the British Government could have been used to pay off Australian servicemen but argued that Australian ministers had used it to decontaminate test sites.

Convergence of black and white to fight for Aboriginal rights

Aboriginal people fighting to protect their land from mining companies and the government described uranium mining and nuclear waste dumping in detail. “Breaking the nuclear chain” was a forum that included Diane Stokes from Muckaty, whose community is fighting to stop the government from dumping nuclear waste on their land…….

“The students are really passionate, and they’re up with what’s happening, through the internet and networks. The Aboriginal people are more isolated and we haven’t got all the technologies to campaign on the same scale.

“But we’re directly affected. So that’s why we need to fight for change together.”

NZ On Screen – A Nuclear Free Pacific (Niuklia Fri Pasifik)

A Nuclear Free Pacific (Niuklia Fri Pasifik), NZ On Screen – 10 July, This documentary travels to nine Pacific nations, including New Zealand, to chronicle the long struggle to create a regional nuclear arms free zone. Interviews with politicians, activists, radiation victims and American and French admirals are counterpointed. When hopes of a treaty are dashed at a South Pacific Forum meet, it is pointed out that the David Lange-trumpeted independence of NZ’s nuclear free policy is evidently “not for export”. Local music scores the doco, including Australia’s Midnight Oil, whose lead singer (future MP Peter Garrett) is interviewed.
